The Tomato Loft

I've discovered our loft is a great place to take pictures. It's also a good place to curl up with a giant tomato and read a book.

Persimmon Ottoman!

Yay! I finally made the persimmon ottoman! It's not completely stuffed yet. We'll have to test it out to see if the fabric holds up. I think the leaves are too dark, but that's the only color I had. i'll have to get some better pictures before I put them in my shop.

One Tomato, Two Tomatoes!

Tomato two is finished! I'm already about halfway through tomato number three. And I'm trying out a persimmon with some cheap broadcloth fabric that was on sale at Joann's. I'm not sure it will work, might be too thin. Orange bed linen is pretty hard to come by at the thrift shop. I've seen purple...maybe I should try an eggplant. Red has been pretty easy. So I had to resort to purchasing new fabric to make the persimmon ottoman. Hope to have pics soon. The weather is gloomy and wet today. I guess I'd better get used to it. I'll be staying in and crafting all weekend. I've also added another leaf to the tomato. Next version will hopefully be less star-like.


And once again, more cat photos... I've seen a few very large spiders, mostly downstairs. The good thing about having the cats is they like to play with them and then eat them. Or leave them for the vacuum. This spider was pretty resilient, so it gave the kitties a fair amount of entertainment. It was big. You can see it in the bottom photo.

My Tomato

I made this over the weekend. It's not finished yet. I ran out of stuffing, so it's nearly done. I couldn't wait to share :)
I think this may be the first item in my shop. Except for the thread, it's made entirely of repurposed or recycled materials. I'm very happy with it. It turned out better than I expected. I need to figure out what to price it at. Anyone care to throw in their two cents? Let's not compare to made in china prices. $40, $50, $60...? too high?


On a somewhat related note, basil goes with tomatoes...
On my second night in Seattle, Joanna and I went to this cheap phở place down the street for dinner. I think it's only $4.75 a bowl or something. They always give you bean sprouts and thai basil with the soup. So, I took the basil stems home, stuck them in water...and a week later they started rooting. I just planted them a few days ago and they seem to be thriving. I've tried this a few times before, but they always seemed to die when I put them in pots. So yay, we have thai basil! I got some mint from the market yesterday that I'm going to try to grow, too.

Arthur + Table Cloth = One Sweet Pillow

So, I've sent my resume out and I'm trying to work on my portfolio and learn some new graphics programs, but all that stuff isn't fun. I'm giving myself a few hours a day to work on some crafts. I've been wanting to make some giant pillows like this for a while. Here's the first of hopefully many...

This is before I dismembered and eviscerated Arthur. Nemo tried to eat his ear. He could do it, too. He already ate the ears off my wombat.

The fabric is a tablecloth I got at goodwill for $2.00. And I used the stuffing from a king-size pillow and most of Arthur, also goodwill finds. These things require a ridiculous amount of stuffing. Here's a deflated Arthuer and the finished pillow.

Pieces of craft

So, now that my traveling has stalled, I'm going to be using my blog more for my crafting projects. It will be more of a craft blog, or my "Crog" as Noel calls it. But I'm still going to do more traveling, and I have my Seattle adventure starting in a few weeks. So stay tuned!

So I went through a phase where I made tons of soap. Well, just the melt-and-pour glycerin kind. I didn't actually make the soap with lye and all that stuff.



And here are the dog pillows I made a while ago christmas. It's Beagan and Bliss and Elliot! And I also made one for Brooke this past christmas of her dog, Walter.
